Individual Project Partner | Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church

About the Organization

Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church (MDPC) is a large suburban church with an array of congregational service areas ranging from children’s ministry to elderly care and everything in-between. With 5,000 members, MDPC is one of the largest Presbyterian Churches in the nation and hosts dozens of programs on a daily basis.

The Problem

MDPC had a severely outdated website that needed an aesthetic facelift, a total overhaul of its sitemap/content and backend foundation. The existing website didn’t allow users to search the massive volume of ongoing programs taking place at MDPC – a major shortfall as the website should be a primary entry point for new members and program participants. MDPC’s internal communications staff also needed a website that would allow them to log-in as administrators to make on-the-fly changes to content; a feature the current site lacked. All of these requirements also had to seamlessly mesh with the existing enterprise registration and payment systems that the church’s front office used for event management.

The Solution

South Hill spent several days interviewing each department to understand their specific needs and how they fit into the larger content strategy of the church. After the initial discovery sessions, South Hill worked collaboratively with the MDPC communications team to developed a streamlined sitemap and content strategy. The sitemap would allow users to quickly find the information they needed, but also created a foundation for optimized content that would reduce the overall volume of site copy. With content and design revised from the ground up, the website was then programmed on a flexible content management system that allowed MDPC staff to take full ownership for the site. Custom applications were also developed that give users the ability to search the event directory for opportunities that are right for them based on age, demographics, subject matter, and more. The final site also seamlessly tied into the church’s enterprise systems allowing users to register and pay for events. Services include:
